Pentecost 23 | 1 November 2026

Today we will hear from Joshua 3:7-17 and Matthew 23:1-12, two readings that invite us to think carefully about leadership, power and the way of God.

We will explore what it means to lead not through status or control, but through humility, service and a willingness to stand in difficult places for others.

These ancient stories also challenge us to notice whose voices have been pushed aside, to examine the ways power can both liberate and oppress, and to imagine communities where authority is shared.

As we worship together, we are reminded that none of us crosses the difficult rivers of life alone – God calls us to make the journey together.

 

Pentecost 24 | 8 November 2026

Today we will hear from Joshua 24:1-3 and Matthew 25:1-13, two readings that ask what it means to remain faithful when the journey is long and the future uncertain.

Joshua challenges us to consider where our deepest allegiance lies, while Jesus’ parable of the ten bridesmaids asks what will keep the light of faith burning through a long night.

Together, these readings invite us to replenish the practices of compassion, justice, hope and love that sustain us and shape the way we live.

And they remind us that, even when change is slow and the way ahead is unclear, we can still choose whom we will serve and keep tending the flame

 

Pentecost 25 | 15 November 2026

Today we hear from 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 and Matthew 25:14-30, two readings that ask what faithful living looks like while we wait for God’s future to unfold.

Together they challenge us not to retreat into fear or simply preserve what we have, but to use the gifts entrusted to us with courage, compassion and hope.

We will reflect on what it means to be “children of light”, building one another up and making God’s love, justice and welcome visible in the world around us.

And we will consider how, here in Aotearoa, we might resist burying our gifts and instead use them to help build something beautiful.

 

Reign of Christ | 22 November 2026 

Today we hear from Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20-24 and Matthew 25:31-46, where God is pictured as a shepherd who gathers and cares for the scattered, and Christ is encountered among those who are hungry, vulnerable and overlooked.

Together these readings invite us to imagine what the reign of Christ might actually look like in our world.

They challenge us to see that God’s reign is revealed not through status or power, but through compassion, welcome, justice and practical care.

And they remind us that the reign of Christ is not simply something we wait for, but something we are called to practise here and now.

 

Advent 1 | 29 November 2026

Today we hear from Mark 13:24-37 and 1 Corinthians 1:3-9, two readings that invite us to watch, wait and hope.

Mark calls us to keep awake for the coming of Christ, while Paul reminds us that God’s grace is already present and that we have been invited into partnership with Christ.

Together they challenge us not simply to wait for God to transform the world, but to notice where love, justice, peace and compassion are already taking flesh among us.

As Advent begins, we are invited to keep watch for the quiet signs of God’s kingdom growing in our communities and to discover how we might become part of that work.
