Christmas Day – Light Has Come

Light Has Come

A short reflection on Isaiah 52:7–10 and John 1:1–14

Christmas Day is a celebration like no other. It's not just about tinsel and turkey; it's about the miracle of God drawing near. Today, we hear the ancient cry of Isaiah: “Your God reigns!” Words first spoken to a weary, exiled people, now echo through the birth of Jesus. A child is born, and with him comes peace, hope, and the deep assurance that God has not forgotten us.

John’s Gospel paints the picture even more vividly: the Word, who was with God from the very beginning, became flesh and moved into our neighbourhood. This isn’t distant theology. This is intimate, real, and revolutionary. Jesus enters our world not as an idea, but in blood and breath, laughter and tears.

On this day of new beginnings, we are reminded that light still shines in the darkness. That love is stronger than fear. That we get to start again. For those carrying sorrow, responsibility, or exhaustion, Christmas is a lifeline. It says: You are not alone. God is here.

So, as we gather with others or sit quietly with a cup of tea, may we unwrap more than presents. May we unwrap grace, wonder, and the light of Christ that no darkness can overcome.

God's presence is not far off; it is here, now, in the middle of our everyday lives.

Christmas invites us to begin again, clothed in light and filled with hope.
