About this month's material
Pentecost 4 | 6 July 2025
Today in 2 Kings 5:1-14 and Luke 10:1-11, 16-20, we hear two stories of healing and mission: Naaman’s unexpected cure in the Jordan River and Jesus sending seventy-two disciples to proclaim peace and wholeness.
Both reveal how God’s power often moves through humble, ordinary actions and voices that might otherwise be overlooked.
Together, these readings call us to say our own simple yes to the Spirit’s work in and through us today.
Pentecost 5 | 13 July 2025
Today’s readings from Amos 7:7-17 and Luke 10:25-37 bring us face to face with God’s unwavering standard of justice and compassion.
Through Amos, we hear the hard truth of a society measured by God’s plumb line and found crooked.
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus challenges us to live out the law of love through bold, boundary-crossing compassion that transcends religious and legal expectations.
Pentecost 6 | 20 July 2025
Today’s readings draw us into two vivid scenes. From Amos 8:1-12, we hear the prophet’s harsh but honest vision of a nation facing the consequences of injustice and a famine of hearing God’s word.
From Luke 10:38-42, we meet Martha and Mary, two sisters responding in different ways to Jesus’ presence – one busy with tasks, the other quietly listening.
Together, these readings challenge us to consider both the urgency of justice and the importance of pausing to hear God’s voice. As we reflect, we will explore how God’s word speaks into both the brokenness of society and the anxieties of our own lives.
Pentecost 7 | 27 July 2025
Today’s readings from Colossians 2:6–19 and Luke 11:1–13 invite us to explore what it means to live a life rooted in Christ and shaped by prayer.
Paul encourages believers to stand firm in faith and resist being swayed by worldly ideologies, while Jesus offers a radical model of prayer that forms and transforms us.
Together, these passages call us into a deeper commitment to Christ’s Way – through persistence in prayer, courageous discipleship, and the daily rhythm of dying and rising with Christ.
