Pentecost – When the Wind Finds Its Voice

Pentecost – When the Wind Finds Its Voice

When the Wind Finds Its Voice

A short reflection based on Acts 2:1-21 and 1 Corinthians 12:3-13

Before the wind roared and the flames flickered, there was simply a small group of believers holding together. In Acts of the Apostles, they are waiting – uncertain, grieving, hopeful. Then Pentecost arrives, and the Spirit rushes in. Not quietly. Not politely. But with power.

They speak in many languages, and people from every nation hear good news in their own tongue. This is no random miracle. It is grace with direction. God meets people where they are. Differences aren’t erased; they are honoured. The Spirit doesn’t flatten culture but breathes through it.

Years later, in 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds a divided church that the Spirit is still at work – giving gifts not for status, but for service. Wisdom, healing, faith, discernment – each gift matters. No one has them all. Everyone has something.

The good news is this: God doesn’t wait for us to be fearless or perfect. The Spirit is poured out on ordinary people – young and old, confident and questioning. Unity doesn’t mean sameness. It means belonging to one body, animated by one breath.

The wind still blows. The question is whether we will set our sails to catch the wind, trust the Spirit’s direction, and speak love in ways the world can understand.

Speak so others can hear. Learn the language – cultural, emotional, spiritual – of those around you.

Use your gift for the common good. What God has placed in you is meant to bless the whole body.

Philip
