Description
Celebrated theologian N.T. Wright brings the Book of Acts alive with fresh perspective, examining its foundational role for both ancient and modern Christianity.
Acts serves as more than historical narrative; it is the pivotal record of the church’s early days, charting the spread of Jesus’ message throughout the Greek, Roman, and Jewish worlds.
Wright unpacks the book’s major themes, revealing how Acts is not only a record of the apostles’ mission but also a guide for today’s church in understanding its mission, values, and challenges.
Readers gain access to Wright’s expertise, distilled into an approachable format, that paints a dynamic picture of how Acts bridges the Gospels with the letters, and ultimately, with the mission of the church today.
Complete with reflective questions, this book is perfect for individual or group study, offering readers a chance to explore the spiritual and theological depths of Acts in a way that’s both informative and transformative.
This work invites all to rediscover the potential of the church and the calling of the followers of Jesus.
From N.T. Wright: Why I wrote The Challenge of Acts
There is a lot to be said for verse-by-verse exegesis and exposition of the New Testament, but there is also a lot to be said for, on occasion, standing back and seeing the larger sweep of thought and noting the way certain themes are highlighted and developed.
This is the latter sort of book. Acts is a page-turner. Thirty years or more of early church history flash before our eyes: full of interest, lessons to be learned, characters to ponder. It’s easy to cherry-pick parts that seem to speak to us directly; the danger then is that we miss themes that emerge in a more overarching way.
Some of those are powerfully relevant to the challenging life and work to which the followers of Jesus are called today.
